Did you know between 2012 and 2014, the number of people in North America seeking treatment for orthodontia grew by 16%?

Have you been considering where you need orthodontics? Have you been thinking should I get Invisalign or braces?

Luckily, we’re going to break down the difference and the Invisalign vs braces cost. Keep reading, and you’ll be on your way to your new smile before you know it.

What’s the Difference?

The most obvious difference between Invisalign and braces is plastic compared to metal.

If you’re going for braces, your orthodontist will attach brackets to your teeth with a bonding material, followed by a thin, metal wire called an archwire going from bracket to bracket. Braces use the wire to exert a light force causing the teeth to align.

Invisalign treatments use clear removable aligners that are generated from a computer. When these aligners are worn, they gradually move your teeth into the correct place.

Typically the Invisalign aligners are smoother and thought to be more comfortable than the metal braces. The idea is that Invisalign is virtually invisible, and people won’t even notice.

On top of the materials used, there are a few other things that separate the two teeth straightening methods.

Typically braces are a better bet for more severe adjustments for your teeth and take a long time, sometimes even years. Invisalign is a better solution for more moderate changes and can be done in a matter of months.

For braces, you’ll visit an orthodontist every month to have your wires adjusted. Invisalign will change the aligners every couple of weeks, but you’ll only go into the doctor every six to eight weeks.

Don’t forget, while aligning your teeth, braces come with some food restrictions to avoid damaging the wires or brackets. With Invisalign, you’ll be able to take the aligners out while you eat.

Now that we’ve covered the differences, are you ready to hear the numbers?

Invisalign vs Braces Cost

This is what everyone wants to know, how much is it going to cost me?

Braces tend to be the more affordable choice, costing between $1,800 to $5,500. Invisalign averages between $3,000 $5,000. However, it’s important to realize every case is different, so let’s consider some scenarios to decide which gives you the biggest bang for your buck.

When your oral health needs more work than average, your cost will increase. For example, fixing overbites takes longer to move your teeth, making the process cost more.

You should also consider how much insurance will cover and what the average costs around you are.

Your Invisalign timeline can determine the cost of your process. It’s best to talk directly to your doctor to determine the exact cost for you. Remember, the longer the process, the more expensive.

Have You Decided?

While everyone’s oral health will require different plans, it’s always smart to come prepared with questions for your orthodontist.

When trying to consider Invisalign vs braces cost, you’ll have to consider what your needs are and go from there.
